Explore Scotch whisky and its fascinating heritage at our A. D. Rattray Whisky Experience, located in the beautifully renovated old village school. We’ll guide you through the next steps on your own whisky journey, whether you’re a whisky lover or enjoying your first dram. Nose and taste exquisite spirits in our Tasting Room, personalise your own bottle in the Cask Room and explore the world’s finest single malts in our shop. You can even view our working Sample Room, where our casks are meticulously evaluated for quality.
You’re welcome to drop in and there’s no charge for the A. D. Rattray Experience. There are no formal tours and our friendly team are always on hand to help you discover more about our favourite subject, whisky. For Whisky and Gin Tastings, please book in advance to avoid disappointment. We look forward to meeting you soon.
Monday to Saturday from 10am to 6pm all year
Sundays from 12 Noon to 5pm during April-December
You’ll find us on the A77 in the village of Kirkoswald, approximately 14 miles south of Ayr or 50 miles from Glasgow.
You can get a train from Ayr or Girvan to Maybole followed by a 10-minute taxi or bus journey. You can find up-to-date train information and timetables on the ScotRail website by clicking here.
You can get the number 60 bus from Ayr or Girvan to Kirkoswald with the bus stopping 100 metres from our entrance. The bus is operated by Stagecoach with information and timetables available by clicking here.
We are in a rural area so the availability of taxis can be limited. There are a number of local taxi companies however we strongly advise that you pre-book your journey with them well in advance.
You are very welcome to cycle to us and we are located near to Route No.7 of the National Cycle Network. However please note that this route takes you partly along the A77 which can be very busy, especially with larger trucks. We would recommend following one of the quieter local routes and details of those can be found here.
Our car park has designated disabled parking and ramped access to the front door. We are fully accessible with level access throughout and one step from our shop into our cask room. Fully accessible customer toilet facilities are also available. You can read our access guide by clicking here.

- German – please get in touch to arrange an informal talk or tasting in German.
- Dogs welcome! We even reward well-behaved dogs with water and dog biscuits.
We advise that you have something to eat before attending a whisky or gin tasting and you will require transport home with either a designated driver or by public transport.
