Experience a true Scottish whisky destination at the A. D. Rattray Whisky Shop, located on the stunning West Coast of Scotland. A warm Ayrshire welcome awaits you at our home in the beautifully restored old village school in Kirkoswald, less than an hour south of Glasgow.

Our whisky shop is a must-visit for whisky lovers, offering a unique blend of history, craftsmanship and exceptional spirits in the heart of rural Scotland.

Independent Whisky & Spirit Merchants Since 1868

Founded in 1868 by Andrew Dewar Rattray, A. D. Rattray began life as an independent grocer and tea, wine and spirit merchant. From the very beginning, our founder was renowned for his passion for the selection, maturation and blending of Scotch whisky.

Today, A. D. Rattray proudly continues as an independent Scotch whisky bottler, specialising in single cask and cask strength whiskies. Our full award-winning range is available in our whisky shop, alongside a number of exclusive bottlings you won’t find anywhere else.

We also stock whiskies from leading Ayrshire distilleries, including Lochlea Distillery and Arran Distillery, as well as expressions from our sister company, The Clydeside Distillery.

Award-Winning Whiskies & Premium Spirits

Discover our own award-winning Scotch whiskies alongside a carefully curated selection of:

  • Wines and craft beers
  • Gins, rums and liqueurs
  • Cigars and whisky gifts
  • Scottish food and local produce

Every product is personally selected, taste-tested and approved by our team, with a strong focus on independent producers from Ayrshire and across Scotland. Each bottle and product has a story to tell.

Ayrshire & Scottish Food and Drink

Staying true to our merchant roots, our shop also showcases the very best of Scottish food and drink. From artisan producers to small-batch specialists, we champion quality, provenance and craftsmanship — perfect for gifting or enjoying at home.

Whisky & Spirit Sampling Bar

Our in-store sampling bar offers visitors the opportunity to taste a selection of our whiskies and other spirits before purchasing. We also host regular brand pop-up events, where ambassadors from featured producers are on hand to share insights, stories and tasting notes.

From the Cask – A Unique Whisky

Single cask whisky is at the heart of what we do. In our shop, you can choose from a range of single cask whiskies which are personalised with your name of message handwritten on the label.

Every bottle is individually dipped in wax to seal it and then we add the label that is hand-written with all the whisky details, date bottled and your name or message — perfect for celebrations, gifts or special occasions.
